Mumbai, Actor Tanushree Dutta said on Friday that she has been subjected to a wave of negativity on social media following the death of senior star Nana Patekar. She detailed how her existence turned into a daily struggle after she first accused him of sexual harassment in 2018.
Dutta had previously accused Patekar of misbehaving with her while they were shooting an item song for the 2008 film Horn Ok Pleassss. Her decision to reiterate those allegations in October 2018 ultimately sparked the #MeToo movement in India.
In a video shared on Instagram, Dutta described facing constant threats to her life and being stalked by goons wherever she went. She contrasted her current reality with her past life, noting that she used to travel globally without fear and maintained a robust fitness routine before the controversy unfolded.
She stated that horrific incidents occurred following the #MeToo disclosures that she could not even bring herself to recount fully on social media. According to Dutta, someone tampered with her car brakes in 2024, and individuals frequently followed her movements.
Patekar passed away on Thursday following a heart attack in Goa. Upon hearing the initial news, Dutta posted a video stating she needed time to figure out her reaction while expressing concern that media attention would be entirely consumed by the event.
In her subsequent video, Dutta criticized online commentators sending her negative messages, arguing that a person's death does not erase the actions they took during their lifetime. She questioned whether the accounts of harassment and victimisation are simply closed because the perpetrator has died.
Addressing those urging her to forgive the late actor, Dutta emphasized that Patekar never offered an apology to her. She remarked that even divine forgiveness requires an admission of guilt and an acknowledgment of having ruined someone else's life, asserting that her negative experiences with him remained entirely valid.
Dutta called out social media creators and YouTubers commenting on her situation for views and likes, challenging them to imagine enduring the hardships she faced. She reiterated that every day since 2018 has been a continuous struggle caused by Patekar and a larger group of individuals who made her life miserable.
Following Dutta's 2018 allegations, an initial police complaint was registered against Patekar, who consistently denied any wrongdoing. The legal case was eventually closed due to a lack of sufficient evidence.
