New Delhi: Iran on Thursday accused the United States and Israel of fuelling instability in West Asia, stating that regional insecurity stems directly from Israeli military actions and Washington's diplomatic and military backing. The Iranian embassy in India asserted that true security cannot be achieved through military strikes, territorial occupation, targeted assassinations, and civilian casualties.
The official statement followed remarks made by Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar during an interview, where he warned of potential radical Islamist terror threats and highlighted shared security challenges for India and Israel. In response, the Iranian mission criticized Israel for attempting to present itself as a security guarantor while simultaneously carrying out military operations across Arab nations and occupying regional territories.
Tehran argued that recent events across West Asia demonstrate that regional unrest is driven by aggressive and expansionist policies rather than the local populations. The embassy questioned various military actions and territorial occupations across the region, stating that a nation responsible for massive casualties and destruction in Gaza and attacks in Lebanon cannot credibly claim to defend regional stability.
The statement also rejected characterizations of populations in Gaza and Lebanon as foreign proxies, describing them instead as individuals fighting for fundamental human rights, dignity, and sovereignty after decades of displacement and occupation. Furthermore, Iran highlighted its own resilience against decades of international sanctions and recent military aggression, emphasizing its readiness to protect its territorial integrity.
Concluding its remarks, the Iranian embassy pointed to the international community's growing awareness of the conflict, citing widespread protests and diplomatic isolation at the United Nations as evidence that public opinion rejects distorted narratives. Tehran added that historical memories of the region, including past alignments involving armed elements in Syria, undermine Israel's posture as a leader in the global fight against terrorism, while stressing that the Palestinian conflict must be viewed through the lens of decades of historical context.
