Nearly two dozen train services linking Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai to New Delhi have been cancelled or rescheduled ahead of a planned demonstration by the Cockroach Janata Party at Jantar Mantar, causing significant disruption for travellers heading to the national capital. Regional networks including the North Central Railway, Northern Railway, and North Eastern Railway have suspended various prominent routes, such as Shatabdi, Tejas, and Rajdhani services.

Although the timing aligns with the demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged vote irregularities, railway officials have formally attributed the mass cancellations to anticipated traffic congestion and severe road jams around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations. A traffic advisory warned of heavy vehicle bottlenecks between early morning and afternoon hours, prompting railway divisions to cancel affected trains directly from their originating stations.

The disruptions impact multiple routes connecting Prayagraj, Kanpur, Agra, Aligarh, and surrounding areas. Services such as the Prayagraj Express, Humsafar Express, Shram Shakti Express, and several MEMU and EMU commuter trains have been pulled from schedules across October 9 and 10. Lucknow and Banaras routes have also faced suspensions, affecting the Tejas Express, Lucknow Mail, Shiv Ganga Express, and the Banaras-New Delhi Superfast Express.

In addition to the services originating from Uttar Pradesh, Western and Central Railways have cancelled six long-distance trains and rescheduled two others arriving in New Delhi. This includes adjustments to Mumbai-originating services, such as the Mumbai Central-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, which was delayed by five hours due to expected station area congestion.

Rail authorities have advised passengers to verify their train status before embarking on journeys to avoid inconvenience. Full refunds are being processed for travellers booked on the affected routes, while passengers can check real-time updates through official helplines, railway apps, and station information desks.
