Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay congratulated the ruling Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam candidates following their victories in the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly bypolls, characterizing the electoral outcome as a definitive triumph against political betrayal, personal attacks, and derogatory remarks directed at women.
The message followed P Sathyabama's victory in Dharapuram, where she defeated the DMK candidate Suganya by a margin of over 9,000 votes, alongside K Maragatham Kumaravel extending her commanding lead in Madurantakam. Following the 18th round of counting in Madurantakam, Kumaravel established an 18,427-vote lead, securing 64,578 votes ahead of the DMK and AIADMK contenders.
Both successful candidates had initially won their seats on AIADMK tickets during the April 2026 Assembly elections before resigning to join the ruling TVK on May 25, a move that triggered the necessity for the bypolls. Their party switch became a central issue during the campaign, with AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami alleging betrayal of the electorate and DMK chief MK Stalin criticizing the forced fresh elections.
Addressing the outcome, Vijay asserted that the electorate rejected allegations of cash-for-votes directed at the TVK and responded firmly to critics who had mocked the party's campaign duration. He maintained that the organization achieved electoral support without distributing cash or engaging in traditional vote-buying strategies often referenced in local political discourse.
Throughout the campaign, Vijay had called upon voters to dismiss opposing political forces, while taking aim at comments made by Stalin regarding Sathyabama and questioning the opposition's political stance. In his post-election remarks, he described the result as a victory for political civility, personal dignity, and the populace at large.
Vijay expressed gratitude to the electorate, coalition partners including the Congress, VCK, MMK, and the Indian Union Muslim League, as well as cabinet ministers and grassroots party workers who mobilized support across both constituencies.
