Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to travel to Chennai to address the third edition of the nationwide student outreach programme, Chhatron Ki Goonj. Ahead of the major event in the city, the senior political leader is set to hold a meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay in the afternoon. Although allies Congress and TVK have previously coordinated meetings between both figures in Delhi, Chief Minister Vijay is not expected to attend the student gathering itself.
The visit comes amid significant political developments in Tamil Nadu following twin constituency by-polls, which underscored shifting political dynamics and challenges for opposition factions like the AIADMK under E. Palaniswami. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam representatives have defended the administration's performance, maintaining that recent electoral outcomes reflect a conscious public desire for transparent governance. Meanwhile, nationwide opposition efforts continue to draw focus, with senior leaders highlighting ongoing protests and national campaigns centered around electoral integrity and democratic accountability.
