New Delhi: Yogesh Singh has officially begun his second consecutive five-year term as Delhi University Vice-Chancellor, becoming the first person to secure reappointment under the institution's amended statutes. His new tenure runs from October 2026 until October 2031, ensuring that leadership remains steady as the university continues its ongoing academic shifts.

Singh initially assumed office as the 23rd Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University on October 8, 2021. President Droupadi Murmu, acting in her capacity as the university's Visitor, approved the reappointment, which was subsequently communicated by the Union Ministry of Education.

His initial tenure featured major structural transitions, including changes to undergraduate education, curriculum updates, and the adoption of the National Education Policy 2020. Key developments during this period included transitioning undergraduate admissions to the Common University Entrance Test and rolling out the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme.

Additionally, the university implemented the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022, introducing multidisciplinary learning, the Academic Bank of Credits, and flexible entry and exit options designed to give students more control over their academic trajectories.

These modifications were made possible after Delhi University's statutes were updated in 2023, permitting a sitting vice-chancellor to be reappointed for an additional five-year term without needing to compete in a fresh application process alongside other candidates.

Before taking the helm at Delhi University, Singh held leadership roles as the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi Technological University, Director of the Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, and head of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.

With his official return for a second term extending out to 2031, the university is set to maintain stability and continuity across its administration and academic departments as it continues implementing its long-term strategic plans.
