Reliance Industries-backed Jio Platforms is approaching its much-anticipated initial public offering, with grey market premium indicators pointing to strong unofficial demand ahead of what is slated to become India's largest public issue. The public offering is anticipated to open for subscription on October 21 and close on October 23, with the stock listing expected on October 28 according to market trackers.

Reports indicate that the company was preparing to file its red herring prospectus for an issue expected to raise approximately Rs 30,000 crore, with total potential proceeds reaching up to Rs 30,213 crore. This would surpass the size of Hyundai Motor India's Rs 27,800-crore public offering from 2024. Market trackers noted that the grey market premium stood at Rs 211 per share, following fluctuations that saw it rise from Rs 156 earlier in the month before peaking briefly at Rs 218.

Grey market premium represents the unofficial price at which shares trade prior to their formal stock exchange listing. While tracked closely as a gauge of investor sentiment, analysts emphasize that unofficial quotes can vary significantly by source and time, and they do not guarantee official listing gains. Reports targeting a valuation of roughly $106 billion suggest a price band between Rs 1,065 and Rs 1,119 per share, though final details will be confirmed through official offer documentation.

Jio Platforms has evolved from a telecom-centered venture into an expansive digital services provider encompassing mobile connectivity, broadband, cloud services, entertainment, enterprise technology, and artificial intelligence, reporting a subscriber base of nearly 524.4 million as of March. The public offering marks a major milestone for Reliance Industries as it seeks to unlock value from its digital and telecommunications arm. Market participants are advised to examine formal offer documents, financials, and underlying risks rather than relying solely on unofficial grey market valuations.
