Pune: A 33-year-old IT engineer allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Pune after enduring harassment from her husband and in-laws, who reportedly demanded her entire salary and the transfer of her parental family's apartment, law enforcement officials reported on Wednesday. In a suicide note recovered from the scene, she purportedly blamed her husband and four other in-laws for driving her to take her own life.
The victim was identified as Trishna Rahul Sakpal, who was discovered hanging at her home located in the Keshav Nagar area on September 29. Following a formal complaint lodged by her 74-year-old father, Balkrishna Nikam, the Mundhwa police station registered a criminal case against her husband, Rahul Sanjay Sakpal, along with four additional members of his family.
According to details provided in the complaint, Trishna married Rahul in 2018, with her family providing 13 tolas of gold jewellery during the wedding proceedings. She worked professionally at an information technology firm and faced continuous pressure to surrender her monthly earnings as well as transfer ownership of her parental family's flat to her mother-in-law.
Investigators noted that her father-in-law had additionally pressured her to purchase a separate residential apartment valued at Rs 1 crore under her own name. Amid persistent physical assaults and emotional distress, the couple moved into a separate residence in Keshav Nagar in 2021, though the alleged mistreatment persisted.
The complaint states that her husband physically abused her and forced her out of the home, prompting her to seek refuge at her parental residence, after which he initiated divorce proceedings in court.
On September 29, at approximately 11:30 in the morning, Trishna allegedly died by hanging inside her apartment. Authorities subsequently recovered the suicide note and initiated a comprehensive investigation into the tragic incident.
