A residential building on the outskirts of Kyiv and a key energy facility were struck during a wave of overnight Russian missile and drone attacks. Ukraine's state emergencies service, the DSNS, reported that at least three people were killed and 21 others injured in the capital.
Critical infrastructure was hit in both the Kyiv region and the north-eastern city of Kharkiv, leaving at least 600,000 people across the country without electricity. The bombardment follows statements made on Sunday by US President Donald Trump regarding an alleged energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
Russia's defence ministry stated that its extensive military operation specifically targeted energy and communication facilities utilized by the Ukrainian military. BBC Ukraine Correspondent Dan Johnson reported from Kyiv on the unfolding situation as emergency services continued response efforts.
