New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab unit chief Kewal Singh Dhillon has strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, pointing to widespread narcotics trafficking and a crumbling law and order situation across the state.
Citing the killing of anti-drug activist Parminder Singh Jhota in Mansa, Dhillon formally requested a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry and confirmed that he has written directly to the Punjab Governor regarding the incident. He argued that neither the state administration nor the local police can be trusted to handle such matters independently, drawing attention to a specific case where a Punjab policeman assigned to VIP security was apprehended by the Border Security Force with 15 kilograms of heroin.
Highlighting a series of violent incidents and killings recorded between September and October 2026—including the deaths of police personnel, an Amritsar bank manager, and a social media influencer, alongside prior attacks targeting politicians and police stations—Dhillon contended that Chief Minister Mann, who also oversees the home department, holds no moral right to remain in office.
Simultaneously, political developments in the national capital saw protests intensify in central Delhi over the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner. Demonstrations that began on October 10 led to nearly 7,000 detentions on the first day alone, sparking heated political debates regarding the proportionality of police actions. Opposition figures and student groups reported instances of physical manhandling by security forces, allegations that the Delhi Police have denied. Congress leaders pointed to injuries sustained by student members as opposition parties coordinate their next steps, even as mass street agitations pause for the festive season alongside ongoing legal petitions and preparations for an upcoming parliamentary impeachment motion.
