Iga Swiatek produced a commanding performance to defeat Magdalena Frech 6-2, 6-1 and storm into the Round of 16 at the Wuhan Open. The Polish star also registered her 40th win of the season, extending her remarkable consistency on the WTA Tour.

The victory saw Swiatek move past tennis legend Serena Williams in the list of players with the most WTA 1000 main-draw match wins since the format was introduced in 2009. With 149 victories, Swiatek climbed to seventh on the all-time list, moving ahead of Williams, who finished her career with 148 wins in the category.

The result also extended Swiatek's impressive record of consistency, marking at least 40 victories in five consecutive seasons and underlining her status among the leading players in women's tennis. Swiatek expressed satisfaction with how she handled the challenge after the match, noting that she wanted to stay solid and avoid over-aggression against an opponent who covers the court exceptionally well.

Swiatek had to recover from an early break in the opening set before finding her rhythm and dictating play from the baseline. Her powerful groundstrokes put Frech under sustained pressure, allowing the seventh seed to take the first set 6-2.

The second set proved even more straightforward as Swiatek controlled the rallies and denied Frech any opportunity to mount a comeback, wrapping up the 6-1 win to seal her place in the last 16 where she will face the winner of the match between Ashlyn Krueger and Lanlana Tararudee.
