Kota: Two people lost their lives and more than four others suffered injuries following a multi-vehicle pileup on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Kota district early Friday. Local law enforcement authorities indicated that a truck left stationary on the highway for nearly two days likely triggered the sequence of crashes.
The incident took place between the Balapur and Gopalpura areas in Rajasthan, according to police reports. Following the collision, emergency responders transported the injured individuals to a nearby medical facility for necessary treatment.
Manoj Sikarwar, the station house officer for Kaithoon, explained that a cargo truck traveling from Delhi toward Mumbai had broken down and remained parked alongside the expressway due to a technical failure. A group of mechanics had arrived at the location in a Bolero utility vehicle to conduct repairs when two incoming trucks approaching at high speeds collided with the stationary truck and the utility vehicle, eyewitnesses reported.
One occupant inside the Bolero died immediately at the scene, while a second victim succumbed to injuries while receiving medical care at the hospital. Authorities identified one of the deceased individuals as Sachin, who lived in Kotputli near Jaipur, while ongoing efforts continue to establish the identity of the second person who died.
Police personnel arrived promptly to manage the situation, deploying cranes to clear the wrecked automobiles off the road to avoid additional accidents. The severe crash caused a massive traffic bottleneck on one side of the expressway, which required approximately two hours of work to completely clear.
Initial findings suggest the broken-down truck had occupied the spot for roughly 48 hours. Officers raised questions regarding why the vehicle remained uncleared despite posing a severe safety hazard to drivers, particularly along a high-speed corridor where traffic frequently exceeds 100 kilometers per hour. Police stated that subsequent legal steps will proceed following formal complaints submitted by the families of the victims.
