Following a call by political and student groups for a Jantar Mantar 2.0 protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, social media users began circulating footage of a large vehicular rally featuring two-wheelers, cars, a tractor, and individuals carrying saffron flags. Claims accompanying the viral video alleged that these individuals were members of Hindu organizations en route to Delhi to disrupt the October 10 demonstrations.
Investigations revealed that the video is unrelated to the planned capital protests and is instead old footage capturing a Rajput community rally. Reverse-image searches of key frames pointed to prior online uploads, including instances where the video was shared on September 23, 2024, by an Instagram account identifying it as a Yuva Rajput Sabha event in Jammu.
Further analysis of the visual details in the footage uncovered a storefront named Bakers Avenue. Through geographical verification using Google Maps and Street View, the location was successfully identified as Dogra Chowk in Jammu, matching various landmarks visible in the clip.
Local verification confirmed the nature of the footage. A nearby business owner verified that the setting corresponds to an annual Rajput procession held every September 23 in Jammu to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, completely unrelated to any political demonstrations in Delhi.
Additionally, major right-wing organizations addressed the rumors. On October 8, the Bajrang Dal clarified that while it opposed the protests targeting Gyanesh Kumar, the group had no intention of traveling to Jantar Mantar, labeling the online claims as malicious propaganda. This position was subsequently endorsed and reposted by the Vishva Hindu Parishad on the same day.
