San Antonio Spurs basketball player Victor Wembanyama expressed his backing for French teenagers who organized nationwide protests regarding conditions within the nation's educational system. Data from the Ministry of the Interior indicated that 71,500 individuals participated in Thursday demonstrations, which featured a major rally centered around the Place de la Bastille in Paris.

During a Thursday evening press conference, Wembanyama described the demonstrations as a response to deep-rooted systemic issues. He stated that he was glad high schoolers and young people are speaking up, adding that he hears them, supports them, and hopes others will do the same.

The professional athlete previously responded with enthusiasm to an Instagram user who invited him to join the student demonstrations. When asked about the interaction at the news conference, Wembanyama confirmed his genuine interest, noting that he was in a similar position not long ago and regards his current standing partly as a matter of luck.

Wembanyama explained that he attended high school in Nanterre, an area familiar with student-led school blockades, making the current climate entirely understandable to him. Growing grievances regarding the state of public schools have fueled some of the largest demonstrations seen in France in decades.

The movement originated last month in high schools located within the disadvantaged northern suburbs of Paris. Frustrations regarding unreplaced teacher absences and inadequate facilities swiftly expanded into a broader national campaign targeting social inequality, insufficient public investment, and declining educational standards.
