Hyderabad: An auto-rickshaw driver acted swiftly to rescue a six-year-old girl on Thursday afternoon after her mother allegedly threw her into Hussain Sagar Lake, reportedly overwhelmed by the child's ongoing illness and the financial strain of medical treatment.

The young girl, named Ruksana, was pulled to safety when the driver witnessed the event and immediately plunged into the water. Following the rescue, she was transported to Gandhi Hospital for medical care, where medical staff reported her condition as stable.

According to Domalguda police Inspector Anjan Ali, the mother is identified as Shabhana, a resident of Hasmatpet in Old Bowenpally. Working as a domestic help after her husband left her, Shabhana was single-handedly supporting her two daughters.

Investigators noted that Ruksana had been suffering from a large intestine infection for several days. Although the mother had sought treatment at multiple facilities, the child's health failed to improve, leaving the family struggling to cope with rising medical expenses.

The incident took place around 2 pm within the limits of the Domalguda police station. Local law enforcement has launched an official inquiry into the circumstances leading up to the event, while further updates on the legal proceedings and the child's health are expected.
