Alwar, Oct 14, 2026 13:32 IST — Thieves utilizing a car attempted to steal an automated teller machine in Rajasthan's Alwar by securing a rope to the device in an effort to pull it out of the ground. The heist ultimately failed due to the intervention of passersby and the prompt arrival of law enforcement.

The incident occurred during the night at the Bijli Ghar intersection located in the central area of Alwar city. Surveillance cameras positioned outside and inside the ATM kiosk recorded the entire sequence, capturing the moment one of the suspects tried to blind the security hardware.

Video footage reveals a masked individual entering the enclosure and spraying black paint onto the CCTV lens to block recording. The culprit subsequently secured a rope around the machine and linked the opposite end to an automobile waiting outside. Although the crew attempted to wrench the kiosk free using vehicle power, they were unable to dislodge it.

The unfolding operation was interrupted by pedestrian movement in the area. When police units reached the location following an alert, the culprits abandoned the attempt and escaped prior to apprehension.

In the wake of the event, the local bank manager filed a formal complaint at the Kotwali police station. Law enforcement officials have formally registered a case and initiated a manhunt to track down the perpetrators. Kotwali Station House Officer Dinesh Chandra verified that a case is open regarding the botched robbery, adding that officers are reviewing all gathered surveillance footage to identify and arrest the suspects.
