China is broadening its strategic military footprint in the region through the construction of a new airfield in Laos. Located in Ban Keun, the newly built runway is currently capable of accommodating only small jets.

Even though the facility's current operations are modest, neighboring nations are watching the development with growing concern. Regional governments remain wary of Beijing's intentions and are monitoring the site to see if the infrastructure will eventually be expanded to support larger military aircraft.
