US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in Mumbai on a two-day official visit to India, centering on energy diplomacy, bilateral trade discussions, and a scheduled tour of the Reliance oil refinery in Jamnagar. During his itinerary, Rubio is set to hold bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar to review India-US relations, defense cooperation, visa policies, and progress on a bilateral trade agreement. The diplomatic engagement also serves as preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming trip to the United States for the G20 Summit. Additionally, Rubio is scheduled to pay tribute to the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks at the Taj Hotel and participate in events commemorating the 250th anniversary of United States independence.

Addressing media inquiries regarding energy and sanctions, Rubio emphasized that balancing foreign policy requires weighing bilateral ties, global energy supplies, and trade deal negotiations, noting that efforts are actively underway to finalize an agreement with India. The visit highlights growing energy cooperation, as the United States seeks reliable refined fuel supplies to manage domestic inflation amid global oil infrastructure disruptions in West Asia and refining capacity constraints in Russia and Ukraine. Reliance Industries' Jamnagar Refinery, recognized as the world's largest, provides the specialized capabilities needed to process complex crudes and help stabilize international fuel markets.
