US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in Mumbai on a two-day official visit to India. During his stay, Rubio is scheduled to travel to Jamnagar to tour the Reliance oil refinery, highlighting ongoing energy diplomacy between the two nations.
He will hold comprehensive bilateral discussions with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in Mumbai. The talks will review overall India-US relations, the defense partnership, visa issues, and progress toward a bilateral trade agreement. Officials noted that the visit serves as important preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled trip to the United States for the G20 Summit in December 2026.
As part of his itinerary, Rubio will also pay homage to the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks at the Taj Hotel and participate in events marking the 250th anniversary celebrations of United States independence. Addressing media questions concerning energy and sanctions, Rubio emphasized that balancing foreign policy requires weighing bilateral ties alongside global energy supplies and trade negotiations, adding that efforts remain underway to finalize a trade deal with India.
