New Delhi: A towering 30-foot cockroach effigy erected in Delhi's Pitampura ahead of Dussehra has drawn widespread attention and public debate, with many viewing it as a direct jab at the Cockroach Janata Party. The group has recently staged demonstrations in the national capital over alleged irregularities concerning the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Footage shared by a news agency showed the large insect figure standing alongside traditional effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnad, which are customarily burned during the annual festival to mark the triumph of good over evil. CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke responded to the viral video on social media by offering thanks for the free publicity.

Another CJP member, legal head Ratna Singh, also weighed in on the installation by expressing frustration over public spectacles in the country. The remarks from both leaders sparked considerable online discussion among social media users regarding the timing and potential symbolism of the display during a religious celebration.

The Shree Keshav Ramlila Committee, responsible for setting up the structure, has firmly denied any political intent behind the installation. Committee president and Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker Ashok Goel explained that the insect symbolizes filth and dirt, and its burning is meant to support cleanliness initiatives under government sanitation campaigns.

Goel emphasized that the objective is to clear out dirt from homes, local surroundings, and society as a whole. He further noted that the committee has previously featured unconventional effigies addressing various social concerns, including symbols representing terrorism and Naxalism.

The Cockroach Janata Party has maintained a visible protest presence in Delhi over a variety of grievances. Their demonstrations have included actions targeting political figures and demands involving election officials, alongside extended protests at Jantar Mantar and marches toward Parliament.

These ongoing demonstrations have previously resulted in the detention of numerous activists, students, and journalists across the capital. Although the Ramlila organizers have distanced the cockroach display from contemporary politics, the timing of the installation has fueled ongoing speculation and debate across digital platforms regarding its underlying message.
