The mayor of Kenscoff, a town near Haiti’s capital, spent months writing hundreds of letters to government officials to warn them about escalating gang threats in the region. Despite his repeated and urgent pleas for intervention and security assistance, his warnings were largely ignored by authorities.
The failure to act culminated in a devastating tragedy that left dozens of people dead following a violent incursion by criminal groups. Among the victims of the unfolding violence was the mayor himself, who ultimately lost his life after his desperate calls for protection went unheeded.
