Hyderabad: A brief slip of the tongue by prominent producer and distributor Dil Raju amused audiences and generated viral commentary online during a promotional event for director Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated cinematic project, Ramayana: Part I (The Rise of the Legend). While speaking to the crowd in Hyderabad to announce his company’s involvement in handling the film's distribution across the Telugu-speaking states, Dil Raju accidentally called leading man Ranbir Kapoor by the name of fellow actor Ranveer Singh before quickly backtracking.
During his speech, the producer detailed the grand scale of the distribution plan, explaining that Karan Johar would manage North Indian releases, Sony Pictures would oversee international territories, and his own banner would handle the Telugu market. Emphasizing his professional history with the star, Dil Raju noted that Ramayana represents his third regional collaboration with Ranbir Kapoor, following their previous work together on Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva in 2022 and Animal in 2023.
While commending the performer's abilities, Dil Raju stated that the project features one of the finest actors in the industry, mistakenly referring to him as Ranveer Singh garu before immediately apologizing and correcting it to Ranbir Kapoor garu.
The brief verbal mix-up quickly drew the attention of both the live audience and online viewers, with event cameras capturing Ranbir Kapoor maintaining a stoic, straight-faced expression with minimal reaction to the error. Video footage of the incident spread rapidly across various social media platforms, inspiring lighthearted jokes and comments from internet users amused by the common slip.
The high-profile gathering for Ramayana: Rise of a Legend also featured appearances by producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari, and key cast members including Yash, Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Ravie Dubey.
Co-produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash, the ambitious two-part adaptation of sage Valmiki's epic narrative stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. The extensive ensemble cast also includes Lara Dutta, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Anupam Kher, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor, Arun Govil, Sheeba Chaddha, Adinath Kothare, and Shobana. Ramayana: Rise of a Legend is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026.
