New Delhi, Rain swept across Delhi on Thursday, accompanied by gloomy skies and heavy cloud cover throughout the day. The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert warning of moderate showers, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across the region.

In a district-level nowcast released early in the afternoon, the weather office forecasted moderate precipitation at numerous locations. These conditions were expected to feature wind speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kilometres per hour, with gusts reaching up to 50 kilometres per hour. Experts noted that an additional spell of rain could develop around midnight and persist into Friday morning.

The national capital experienced an overcast day as thick clouds blocked sunlight for hours. Intermittent precipitation and strong winds continued throughout the day, while reduced visibility in multiple neighborhoods enhanced the gloomy atmosphere.

Visuals from key landmarks, such as India Gate, the Parliament building, the Supreme Court, and the Kashmere Gate ISBT, captured dark skies and damp surroundings. Heavy precipitation was also recorded in areas including Palam, Mandi House, Laxmi Nagar, and Geeta Colony.

Residents shared images and videos of the conditions online, with many welcoming the cooler change following a period of warmer weather. Meanwhile, local reports highlighted waterlogging issues near Mandi House and Geeta Colony, alongside traffic delays around Palam and AIIMS.

Meteorological experts attributed the active weather system to a western disturbance and surrounding cyclonic circulations, classifying the precipitation as a standard post-monsoon occurrence. The minimum temperature for the day was recorded at 23.3 degrees Celsius, which is 3.7 degrees above the seasonal average, while the maximum temperature was projected to reach approximately 29 degrees Celsius.
