Meta is introducing a new guest calling capability on WhatsApp designed to let people connect with others who do not have an active account or the mobile application installed. The option provides free, end-to-end encrypted conversations without time limits, making it a practical tool for remote work meetings, online classes, or instances where participants prefer maintaining anonymity. Official updates and platform trackers indicate the feature is currently rolling out gradually to users worldwide.

To initiate a guest session, a registered user opens WhatsApp, navigates to the Calls tab, selects the plus icon to generate a unique call link, and shares it with intended participants. Individuals receiving the link can open it directly in a computer browser, supply a name, and submit a request to join without registering for the service. Access is controlled by the host, who admits guests from a waiting room and retains the ability to remove them at any point during the conversation.

The functionality accommodates both individual and group calls involving up to 32 participants. Invited guests gain access to interactive tools such as screen sharing, emoji reactions, and the option to raise their hand during discussions, ensuring they can actively participate rather than only listen. Certain limitations apply to guest accounts, as participants joining via browser cannot view phone numbers of other callers, send direct messages, or add additional individuals to the conversation. Furthermore, only users with an active WhatsApp account possess the ability to create and distribute a guest call link.

In addition to guest calling, WhatsApp is developing calendar integrations slated for release later this year to support users who frequently organize online discussions. Through this upcoming feature, individuals will be able to link their accounts via plugins for Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook, automatically attaching WhatsApp call links to calendar invitations so that invitees can easily join with or without an account. While the wider rollout progresses, users without immediate access will need to wait for the feature to appear in their applications.
