Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament John Brittas has spoken about his recent appearance in the Supreme Court following an incident involving alleged assault and illegal detention by police personnel. Brittas explained that he had written a formal letter to the Chief Justice of India detailing how he was dragged, forced into a police vehicle, and subsequently required hospital treatment for his injuries.

Upon receiving the communication, the Chief Justice took cognisance of the matter and converted the letter into an interim petition. Opting to represent himself without legal counsel, Brittas noted that the Supreme Court assured him the factual aspects of the case would be thoroughly examined during an upcoming full hearing.

Additionally, Brittas remarked that the apex court observed prima facie merit in separate petitions filed by leaders of the INDIA bloc. The developments highlight ongoing legal scrutiny surrounding the treatment of opposition parliamentarians and law enforcement conduct.
