New Delhi: Getting to the airport early can sometimes offer unexpected advantages, as one IndiGo passenger recently discovered when he managed to catch an earlier flight home. Siddharth Bhimani had several hours to spare before his scheduled departure from Indore to Mumbai after finishing his work ahead of schedule.
Rather than waiting hours at the terminal for his original 10:25 pm flight, Siddharth decided to approach the IndiGo check-in counter after arriving at the airport by 7 pm. He wanted to find out if it might be possible to secure a seat on the upcoming 8:40 pm flight to Mumbai instead.
Taking to social media platform X, Siddharth recounted the experience and highlighted how a polite request can sometimes yield results. He credited the airline personnel on duty, mentioning a supervisor named Shreya Jain and a staff member named Hritubala, for being exceptionally helpful and cooperative.
The staff verified that the flight change could be arranged for an additional fee of Rs 1,800. Siddharth happily paid the amount, received a new boarding pass on the spot, and managed to head home nearly two hours ahead of his original schedule. He praised the employees for creating a hassle-free process and concluded that a courteous approach is often all it takes.
IndiGo later responded to the viral post, thanking the passenger for sharing his positive encounter. The airline stated that it was pleased the team could streamline his travel and get him home sooner, adding that it would pass along his compliments to the staff members involved.
The social media post sparked a broader online conversation regarding airline policies. While some social media users felt it would have been an even better gesture if the airline had accommodated the switch without charging an extra fee, others commended the helpful service and viewed it as a practical option for travelers wanting to save time.
The incident underscores that while arriving early and asking politely can sometimes secure an earlier itinerary, availability depends on airline terms and travelers should expect potential extra charges.
