A businessman bearing the names of two infamous European dictators has been elected as the mayor of a remote district located within the Peruvian Andes, according to official local election data. The 45-year-old victor, Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores, secured his position for the district of Queropalca situated in Peru's central Huanuco region and is scheduled to assume office on January 1.
Representing the left-wing Ahora Nacion party, the candidate captured 229 of the 663 total votes cast during the October 4 elections, as reported by the national electoral processes office. His primary competitor, far-right candidate Gaspar Osorio, finished close behind with 204 votes.
Flores, whose primary profession involves freight transportation, previously maintained political ties with Popular Force, the right-wing party associated with Keiko Fujimori, until stepping away in 2025 according to electoral records. Although the moniker evokes strong associations with Germany's Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler and Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini, local naming practices have occasionally seen individuals with such designations achieve electoral success in the country.
Prior instances include the 2021 election of congressional representative Hitler Saavedra Casternoque for the centrist Somos Peru party, as well as the 2008 electoral victory of Hitler Alba Sanchez as mayor of the Yungar district in the Andes. During his previous campaign, Alba Sanchez remarked publicly that he considered himself to be a benevolent version of the historical figure.
