Mumbai Police may seek to interrogate jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in connection with a shooting targeting actor Tiger Shroff's vehicle, an attack reportedly claimed by the Bishnoi gang. Bringing Bishnoi in for questioning or securing his physical custody requires navigating strict legal procedures and obtaining specific government approvals due to an existing Union Ministry of Home Affairs order preventing his removal from Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Central Jail, where he has been held since 2023. With two suspects arrested and a minor detained in Kota, Rajasthan, and the Mumbai Crime Branch taking over the investigation, questioning Bishnoi has emerged as a potentially vital component of the probe. Investigators are working to verify the gang's involvement and determine if interrogating its leader will help expose the broader conspiracy behind the assault.

Bishnoi remains confined to a high-security isolation wing within Sabarmati Jail, where visitor access is strictly limited to his legal counsel. An MHA directive issued under Section 268 of the Code of Criminal Procedure bars his removal from the facility without prior clearance from the central government, with the restriction subject to annual extensions. This statutory provision allows authorities to prohibit the transfer of specific prisoners, meaning outside law enforcement agencies cannot unilaterally take him into custody. Judicial appearances for Bishnoi are instead handled via video conferencing, keeping his physical transit out of the equation unless specific exemptions are granted.

While these barriers complicate matters, they do not completely block investigators from speaking with Bishnoi inside the correctional facility. Police sources indicate that any agency wishing to question him must first secure authorization from the appropriate NIA tribunal, after which the interview would occur strictly within the bounds of Sabarmati Jail. Should Mumbai authorities determine that questioning Bishnoi is essential to solving the shooting, they would need to pursue formal judicial consent and coordinate with federal officials. Transporting him outside the jail for police custody in another state remains prohibited unless the Centre grants explicit permission.

The shooting incident occurred on a Sunday evening in the Juhu neighborhood of Mumbai as the 36-year-old actor departed from a football match. Assailants fired several rounds at his BMW sedan, leaving the actor unharmed while injuring his driver, Firdaus, and an autorickshaw driver named Chauhan. The initial attempt-to-murder case was registered at the local police station before being handed over to the Crime Branch, leading to the recent arrests and detention in Rajasthan.

Mumbai Police have not yet officially confirmed whether they will formally request permission to interrogate Bishnoi. Their subsequent actions will rely heavily on evidence collected from the suspects currently in custody, forensic evaluations, and the extent of the syndicate's participation in the violence. Whether detectives ultimately conduct the questioning inside Sabarmati Jail or pursue physical custody will depend entirely on judicial rulings and the evolving needs of the active investigation.
