Jammu-Kashmir Police have successfully resolved the murder case of a special police officer in the Kishtwar district by taking a man and his son into custody as the primary suspects. Investigators believe that a property dispute between the involved parties served as the underlying motive for the fatal attack.
The breakthrough followed the disappearance of SPO Bashir Ahmad, who vanished alongside his service weapon prior to the discovery of his remains in a forested pit on October 16. The detained suspects were identified as Bashir Ahmed Dar and his son Nazir Ahmed Dar, both hailing from the Seran Wani region within the Trigam area. Law enforcement officials noted that the two men are distant relatives of the victim and had nursed a lingering land feud with him.
A police spokesperson explained that the suspects were initially detained for interrogation, which ultimately exposed the plot and rationale behind the homicide. Subsequent disclosures from the detainees led authorities to recover the weapon employed in the crime alongside personal belongings of the slain officer that had been hidden away.
According to official accounts, family members reported Ahmad missing on October 15 after he did not return home from the Trigam police picket while carrying his service firearm. The 54-year-old officer had been assigned to the Pedil police post and reportedly departed for his residence earlier that Thursday morning.
Upon receiving the missing person report, Kishtwar Police mobilized a comprehensive search operation deploying various teams to locate the missing officer and his equipment. During the search efforts on October 16, law enforcement first located the service weapon within a forested tract before discovering the officer's body buried inside a pit situated near a nallah in the Seran Wani area of the Trigam forest, close to where he lived.
Initial findings indicated that the victim's body sustained injuries to the throat area. Forensic experts were dispatched to the location to gather physical evidence, while authorities previously noted that a post-mortem examination would definitively determine the exact cause of death.
Following the discovery of the remains, formal murder charges under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita were filed at the Kishtwar Police Station. Investigators indicated that interrogating the two suspects proved vital in clarifying the circumstances and suspected motives surrounding the violent incident.
The recovery of both the murder weapon and the victim's concealed items represents a major milestone in the ongoing inquiry. With the suspects in custody, legal proceedings continue as authorities work to piece together the exact sequence of events and compile further evidence. Police anticipate pursuing the inquiry thoroughly to ascertain the precise details of the crime and the individual actions of the accused.
