Billionaire entrepreneur and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has revealed plans to give one of his SpaceX shares to every child in the United States in 2027. Musk shared the announcement through a post on the social media platform X, writing that he would provide one SpaceX share to every kid in America next year and indicating that this initiative could be the first of several future giveaways.

The proposed distribution could potentially reach approximately 72 million children nationwide. Based on recent market data, SpaceX shares closed at $146.03, making the total value of the shares earmarked for the giveaway roughly $10.5 billion.

Musk currently holds about 6.4 billion shares in SpaceX, which accounts for just under half of the private aerospace manufacturer. The planned initiative would draw directly from his personal equity stake, though Musk has not yet clarified the mechanics of how the transfer would be executed. Since founding SpaceX in 2002, Musk has guided the enterprise to become one of the most valuable private companies globally, overseeing advanced rocket-launch programs, spacecraft development, and the Starlink satellite internet network.

Despite the scale of the announcement, significant questions remain regarding the rules of the giveaway. Musk has not specified which children will qualify, whether minors would hold the shares directly, or what administrative steps families might need to complete.

The announcement coincides with the Trump administration's promotion of the Trump Accounts initiative, a program designed to establish investment accounts featuring a $1,000 federal seed deposit for eligible children born between 2025 and 2028. Previously, SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell and her husband pledged SpaceX shares for over two million children, but Musk had not previously committed his own holdings to such an effort.

It is presently unknown whether Musk's proposed distribution will utilize the existing Trump Accounts structure or operate independently through an alternative framework. Final eligibility guidelines and operational details for the 2027 rollout have yet to be released.
