Newdelhi: The Supreme Court Bar Association on Saturday formally condemned the reported use of excessive force against lawyers and urged Chief Justice of India Surya Kant to intervene urgently. In an official resolution, the SCBA stated that it had received reports indicating numerous advocates, including senior practitioners, young lawyers, and particularly women advocates, had been taken into custody.

According to sources, the legal professionals were participating in a march toward Jantar Mantar following a call by the CJP to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Later in the day, SCBA honorary secretary Pragya Baghel confirmed that all of the detained lawyers had been safely released.

The association's resolution expressed grave concern over the incident, criticizing the application of force against individuals who were peacefully demonstrating within the Supreme Court area. The SCBA resolved to ask the Chief Justice of India to take up the matter directly with the appropriate authorities.

Through its appeal, the bar body sought to ensure that the whereabouts and safety of every affected advocate were verified, that they were granted proper legal assistance, and that those held without lawful grounds were immediately freed. The resolution further called for an official examination into the circumstances surrounding the detentions and the alleged use of force, requesting lawful action based on the findings.
