Delhi Police detained Aam Aadmi Party convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal alongside several other party leaders after he stepped out to participate in a demonstration regarding the Chief Election Commissioner controversy. The detentions occurred shortly after Kejriwal published a message on social media urging citizens to join a march toward the capital.
Speaking to the press before being taken into custody, Kejriwal targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing them of establishing an atmosphere of authoritarian governance. He pointed to the heavy deployment of police and paramilitary personnel throughout the city, asserting that citizens were being restricted from leaving their residences and facing targeted detentions on public roadways.
Kejriwal further contended that the intense security clampdown was connected to ongoing scrutiny over alleged electoral irregularities. He claimed that the administration was attempting to silence public inquiries into the matter, though he maintained that the nation's population and youth would resist such efforts.
During his remarks, the AAP leader appealed to young people nationwide to unite in defense of democratic institutions. He urged individuals across the country to step outside their homes and participate in safeguarding the nation's political framework amidst widespread public discontent over the restrictive measures.
