Guwahati: The Narcotics Control Bureau has seized methamphetamine tablets worth approximately Rs 43 crore from two trucks in Guwahati, Assam, after discovering specially fabricated concealed cavities inside their fuel tanks used to smuggle the illicit substances. Two individuals from Manipur have been taken into custody in connection with the major drug seizure.
The operation was conducted by the Guwahati Zonal Unit of the NCB on October 6, 2026, acting on specific intelligence tips. Officers intercepted the two vehicles and performed thorough searches, ultimately uncovering 53.937 kg of methamphetamine, commonly known as WY tablets, hidden away within the trucks.
Initial findings from the investigation indicate that the drug shipment originated across the border in Myanmar, highlighting a potential cross-border trafficking channel. The trucks had been modified with custom concealed compartments inside their fuel tanks specifically designed to evade law enforcement checkpoints.
The recovered narcotics carry an estimated illicit market value of roughly Rs 43 crore, marking a significant bust for the anti-narcotics agency. The two arrested suspects are both residents of the Bishnupur district in Manipur.
Authorities are currently working to trace the transit route of the shipment and identify key players involved in moving the contraband across the international border and through domestic transit points. The ongoing probe seeks to map the entire supply chain, including international sources, local receivers, financial backers, and logistics coordinators.
Investigators are expanding their efforts to dismantle the wider criminal syndicate responsible for the narcotics operation, pushing beyond the immediate arrests and the recovered consignment.
