Four passengers sustained injuries after a tanker collided with a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport bus on the Eastern Express Highway in Mumbai on Wednesday morning, according to law enforcement officials.
The crash took place at the Chheda Nagar signal at approximately six in the morning. The wet-leased transport vehicle was en route from Vaishali Nagar to Mahul when a motorcyclist abruptly crossed in front of it, compelling the driver to apply a sharp brake.
Before the bus could move forward again, a tanker traveling from Mumbai toward Vashi in Navi Mumbai struck the right middle section of the public carrier. The force of the impact destroyed three side window panes, causing injuries from flying glass splinters.
Two female passengers, identified as 14-year-old Bhagyashree Khedkar and 22-year-old Aditi Koyande, suffered bleeding wounds. The bus conductor escorted them to Rajawadi Hospital for medical care.
Among the two male passengers who also sustained injuries, one received initial first aid at the scene for minor cuts, while relatives transported the other to a private medical center. Local authorities arrived promptly after receiving notification and towed both wrecked vehicles to the Tilak Nagar police station to conduct a thorough inquiry.
This incident adds to a series of recent traffic mishaps involving the municipal bus network across Mumbai. In mid-September, a similar transport vehicle grazed a passenger car before striking a Metro rail pillar in Goregaon, injuring two individuals. Earlier in July, another municipal bus collided with fourteen separate vehicles in Andheri, leaving eight people hurt.
