New Delhi: Cockroach Janata Party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have been remanded to five days of judicial custody and lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail following their detention for allegedly trespassing into Jantar Mantar and waving the tricolour. Police stated the action was taken after the leaders allegedly violated a peace bond signed earlier by breaching barricades, entering the denotified protest area, and obstructing public servants.
In Tihar Jail, Saurav Das has been placed in jail number two, while Ashutosh Ranka is held in jail number four as undertrial prisoners following mandatory medical examinations. Meanwhile, another party leader, Ajinkya Shinde, was released after signing a personal bond.
The arrests and subsequent detentions have sparked a political row, with CJP founder Abhijit Dipke slamming the central administration. Dipke openly challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the wake of the crackdown on the party's flag protest.
Separately, in unrelated state developments, the Uttar Pradesh government's BC Sakhi scheme has driven 39,000 crore rupees in rural transactions while empowering women across the state's gram panchayats through doorstep banking services.
