New Delhi: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and five other leaders of the All India Trinamool Congress were detained by Delhi Police on Saturday during a demonstration directed against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The opposition figures, which included Rajya Sabha members Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen, were taken into custody from the South Avenue area in the national capital as the protest unfolded.
The action by law enforcement came amid heightened political opposition involving the ruling party leaders from West Bengal who had gathered in Delhi to voice their grievances against the election commission leadership.
