Filmmaker Karan Johar has officially expanded his hit film franchise by releasing the teaser for Student of the Year: After Dark, an upcoming series that brings a grittier tone to the fictional St Teresa's institution. The project also serves as the official OTT debut for actor Shanaya Kapoor.
Johar shared the teaser on social media while noting that the new project coincides with fourteen years since the franchise first began. He described the upcoming release as a stark departure from previous installments, characterizing it as gritty, gory, unabashed, and absolute madness.
The teaser suggests a major transformation within the school environment, hinting that the new batch of students harbors hidden secrets beneath the surface. While earlier films centered on campus glamour, high-stakes romance, and competitive rivalries, this streaming adaptation pivots toward a thriller-driven narrative built around mystery and conflict.
The original Student of the Year debuted in 2012 and introduced actors Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra to the screen through a story about elite school friendships and competition. A sequel, Student of the Year 2, followed in 2019 and featured Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday, and Tara Sutaria.
Moving away from the polished aesthetic of the theatrical films, Student of the Year: After Dark is scheduled to begin streaming on JioHotstar on November 13, inviting audiences to explore a much darker side of the familiar campus universe.
