A 19-year-old woman was allegedly murdered in a suspected dowry death, with her remains subsequently buried in the ground in Bihar's Araria district. The victim's body was exhumed by local law enforcement officers in the presence of a magistrate after authorities were alerted to the crime.
The victim has been identified as Rajmani Kumari. According to statements from the woman's family, her husband, Shankar Rishidev, frequently fought with her regarding dowry demands. The couple had been married for approximately one and a half years.
Family members of the deceased alleged that she was killed because they could not fulfill demands for a motorcycle, 100,000 rupees in cash, and a gold chain. Relatives stated that they only became aware of the tragedy on Thursday, an event that caused considerable unrest and commotion throughout the local community.
Police officials confirmed they received an intelligence report indicating that the young woman had been killed and her body concealed underground. A responding officer noted that initial observations point toward a homicide, pointing out that the remains showed signs of decomposition as roughly 60 hours had elapsed since the killing.
Authorities initiated preparations to perform a post-mortem examination to establish the precise cause of death as the investigation continues.
