New Delhi: Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new GT SUV, an electric performance vehicle developed in-house on the company's AMG.EA high-performance architecture. The new model combines a full-size SUV body with sports car-inspired performance, featuring up to 1,169bhp, a claimed range of up to 700km and ultra-fast DC charging of up to 710kW. The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV will be offered in three variants: GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63. Mercedes-AMG has not announced prices or availability for India.

The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV features a low roofline, wide track, muscular wheel arches and a steep front end. Its front fascia gets an AMG-specific radiator grille with vertical slats, while the headlamps feature star-shaped daytime running lights. The rear gets six circular tail-lights with a turbine-inspired design, along with an optional light strip. Active aerodynamics include an AEROKINETICS Airpanel with vertical slats in the front bumper to regulate cooling airflow. The GT 55 and GT 63 also feature an active roof spoiler that adjusts its position according to speed and driving conditions to balance aerodynamic drag and stability.

Inside, the SUV gets a driver-focused cockpit with a 14-inch central multimedia touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. A separate 14-inch display is available for the front passenger. Other features include a panoramic glass roof with switchable transparent and opaque modes, ambient lighting, optional AMG Performance seats and an optional Burmester 4D sound system. The rear seat offers a three-seat bench, with foldable seatbacks and electrically folding headrests, designed to retain full-size utility despite the sloping roofline.

The SUV also integrates the latest MBUX system based on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, featuring AI assistants from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini. Dedicated AMG applications include the AMG PERFORMANCE MENU, AMG SET-UP and AMG TRACK PACE for telemetry and lap-time recording. The vehicle will be available with two electric powertrain configurations, ranging from the entry-level GT 53 producing 544bhp up to the range-topping GT 63 generating 1,169bhp and 2,000Nm from three axial-flux motors.

The range-topping GT 63 SUV accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 2.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 270kmph with the optional Driver's Package. The electric SUV utilizes an 800-volt battery system with directly cooled cylindrical cells, offered in usable capacities of 106kWh and 128kWh. The larger battery supports charging at up to 710kW, adding up to 450km of claimed range in just 10 minutes, and enables a charging process from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 12 minutes under suitable conditions.

Driving technology includes the newly developed AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ suspension using active hydraulic elements to control body roll and pitch. Active rear-axle steering is standard across the range, alongside AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive with variable torque distribution. Drivers can also utilize the AMG RACE ENGINEER system for customized handling settings and select simulated engine sound programs that mimic V8 or six-cylinder powerplants complete with virtual gear changes.
