Jnu’s Internal Committee found that Congress MP and professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam asked women students about their dating lives, made sexually explicit remarks, engaged in unwelcome physical contact, and conducted late-night vivas at his residence. The university dismissed Akoijam with immediate effect through an order dated October 9, signed by Vice-Chancellor Santishree D Pandit, noting that due process was followed alongside a review of the facts and the committee report.

The committee stated that the accounts provided by complainants, witness testimonies, and Akoijam's own statements established a recurring pattern of behavior that was inconsistent with the professional boundaries expected in a teacher-student relationship. Akoijam had previously rejected the allegations, claiming that racist schemers were attempting to damage his reputation through unverified claims and falsehoods. He had taught at the Centre for the Study of Social Systems in JNU's School of Social Sciences and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Manipur's Inner Manipur constituency in 2024 as a Congress candidate.

According to findings in the report, Akoijam questioned women students about their dating history and Valentine's Day activities during classes without any academic justification. Inquiries during vivas included asking if students had boyfriends, what activities they engaged in with their partners, and their opinions on romantic affairs or age-gap relationships. The committee determined that these inquiries created an intimidating, offensive, and hostile learning environment for the students.

The investigation also revealed that the professor asked students for the definition of the term quickie, explaining it with explicit descriptions and hand gestures. Additionally, the committee recorded instances of unwelcome physical contact, such as students being urged to hold his hand despite visible hesitation and experiencing non-consensual pinching.

The report detailed concerns regarding a screening of the film Lust Stories during class without prior warning regarding its sexually explicit content, which contributed to a hostile atmosphere. Other allegations included instances of unnecessary physical proximity and jokes that disparaged specific regional groups. Furthermore, the committee highlighted irregular viva arrangements, including sessions conducted at his residence extending late into the night without the presence of a third party, as well as social interactions involving alcohol with former students that breached standard professional boundaries.
