Hyderabad, Oct 9, 2026 — World number four recurve archer Dhiraj Bommadevara has called for a mix of daytime and night matches in the Archery Premier League, stating that exposure to different shooting conditions would better prepare Indian archers for major international competitions.

The Asian Games gold medallist, who also made history as the first Indian man to win an individual World Cup Final gold, has participated in both seasons of the league. While both editions have historically taken place entirely under floodlights, Dhiraj believes incorporating daytime contests alongside evening fixtures would offer competitors a more comprehensive competitive experience.

The athlete, who represents the Mighty Marathas in the tournament, emphasized that international events such as the Olympics and World Cups can schedule matches at any hour, meaning competitors must be ready to adapt instead of depending on a fixed routine. He noted that experiencing varied timing helps athletes prepare for every possible scenario.

The relocation of the league from Delhi to Hyderabad has also introduced new environmental variables, specifically wind. Dhiraj pointed out that the conditions in Hyderabad present considerable wind challenges during both morning and evening sessions, forcing recurve and compound shooters to enhance their tactical communication and coordination.

Beyond technical adjustments, Dhiraj highlighted the social and professional benefits of the league, noting that it has fostered closer relationships between Indian and international competitors. Featuring top-tier global talent such as Dutch compound archer Mike Schloesser, Mathias Fullerton, and Tokyo Olympics champion Mete Gazoz, the tournament has encouraged athletes to share insights and training methods.

Dhiraj credited the league with helping participants open up to one another beyond basic greetings, allowing them to observe how elite rivals handle pressure during matches and prepare during training sessions. He also expressed hope that powerhouse South Korean archers might join future editions if scheduling conflicts with their domestic events are resolved, though he maintained that the current international field already offers substantial learning opportunities.
