A high-level delegation of leaders from the opposition INDIA bloc, including prominent figures such as Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, and Mallikarjun Kharge, met with President Droupadi Murmu to present a formal memorandum regarding alleged electoral malpractice and growing concerns surrounding the Election Commission of India. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, alliance leaders stated that the President listened attentively to their grievances and requested that concrete evidence be furnished, a condition the opposition agreed to fulfill.
The delegation alleged that multiple elections in recent years had been compromised and called for an immediate return from electronic voting machines to traditional paper ballots. The memorandum also raised sharp objections regarding the conduct of the Chief Election Commissioner and demanded systemic accountability to protect democratic integrity. Delegation members noted that after experiencing protests and detentions while attempting to approach authorities, they decided to take their campaign directly to the highest levels of the state and announced plans to move the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the national capital has been placed under heavy security deployment ahead of a planned protest call at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Over 20,000 security personnel, including the Border Security Force, have been positioned across Delhi to maintain law and order. Authorities have suspended internet services within a four-kilometre radius of the protest site, closed 57 metro stations along routes leading to the area, and restricted inbound express trains from other states during specific morning hours.
The Union Home Secretary directed state administrations that the planned demonstration lacked official permission and must not be allowed to proceed. Opposition parties, however, maintain that their agitation reflects deep-seated public concern over electoral transparency. In addition to their engagement with the President and upcoming Supreme Court filings, opposition figures continue to highlight contentious local poll outcomes and broader political disputes as part of their escalating nationwide campaign.
