The Janata Dal (United) on Tuesday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other opposition figures of attempting to secure political advantage through a recent march to the Supreme Court, emphasizing that the issues they raised are already under judicial consideration. The party urged the opposition to respect the legal process rather than foster confusion over matters currently before the bench.
The remarks follow a demonstration where opposition leaders, civil society representatives, and activists staged a March for Democracy along a heavily barricaded route in the national capital to file a joint petition concerning alleged electoral irregularities and special intensive revision matters.
JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad stated that the opposition should place its trust in the legal framework instead of pursuing political mileage. He noted that the Chief Justice of India had previously pointed out that the matters the leaders wished to discuss were already the subject of pending petitions.
Prasad added that meeting with the opposition delegation would have run counter to constitutional propriety, with the judiciary advising them to follow formal legal avenues. He criticized the haste and commotion surrounding the petitions, arguing that procedural flaws had been exposed in the process.
Furthermore, Prasad questioned the significance of an invitation extended by Gandhi to INDIA bloc members, civil society groups, and student organizations for a gathering at his residence, asserting that such events hold little relevance while the core issues remain before the court. The JD(U) reiterated that all parties must uphold the dignity of the judiciary and pursue their concerns strictly through established channels.
