New Delhi: Actor Imran Khan has found himself back in the public eye following his detention during an October 10 protest in Mumbai in support of the Cockroach Janta Party, leading to renewed attention on his life away from the screen. As footage of his brief detention and release spread online, observers revisited a past social media post in which the actor provided a rare look at a multi-year personal project.

In June 2024, the former leading man posted photos of a residence he had spent several years constructing. The endeavor represented a major lifestyle shift. Although he had portrayed an architect on screen, he possessed no formal training in the field, relying instead on personal curiosity and a willingness to learn through experimentation.

The defining characteristic of the project was its location and integration with the environment. Khan described the plot as uneven terrain bordered by two seasonal streams, bounded by a cliff at the back and oriented toward the sunset. Instead of forcing a rigid architectural concept onto the land, he allowed the natural geography to dictate the layout, aiming to create a simple shelter to appreciate the scenery rather than an opulent vacation estate.

To understand the property fully, the actor spent his first year visiting at various hours to study the shifting sunlight, the behavior of the streams during rainfall, and the seasonal changes in local vegetation. These extended observations allowed him to adjust his initial sketches multiple times before breaking ground on the build.

Practical construction decisions also shaped the final result. After consulting with his contractor and a structural engineer, Khan discarded plans for a standard concrete-slab structure. He chose an approach modeled after regional village dwellings, utilizing a stone plinth foundation, single-story brick walls, steel roof beams, and prefabricated insulated roofing.

Images shared from the site captured the progression of the work alongside the finished rooms surrounded by dense foliage. Khan refrained from marketing the property as a flawless architectural masterpiece, noting that the finish was somewhat rough around the edges while describing the overall journey as deeply rewarding.
