A photograph of Puzhakkal Pavithra running with a student union flag while police moved in to detain demonstrators has thrust the Delhi University student into the national spotlight. Pavithra, a third-year Anthropology undergraduate at Hansraj College, suddenly became a recognizable face of student activism after the image spread widely online.

The 20-year-old student is originally from the Palakkad district in Kerala and has been affiliated with the Students' Federation of India for roughly two years. The viral moment occurred around the time of an SFI-organized women's rally in Delhi, which faced police intervention and detentions before it could officially begin.

Recalling the incident, Pavithra explained that participants began running when they heard authorities call for female police officers, noting that she was not even aware she was still carrying the flag as she moved. She subsequently defended the demonstration, stating that peaceful protest is a fundamental right and emphasizing the need to work toward societal change.

Public interest has also focused on her background and family connections. Reports indicate that her mother is a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Palakkad, and her maternal grandfather previously served as a local leader and village council head in Mankara. While these ties link her to the region's broader Left movement, it is the fleeting photographic moment that ultimately propelled her into the wider public conversation.
