A Tesla vehicle using driver-assistance technology crashed into a California Highway Patrol cruiser on Interstate 80 in Solano County, resulting in serious injuries to two officers who were seated inside the patrol vehicle at the time of the collision.

Emergency personnel had previously set up flares, traffic cones, and flashing emergency lights around the parked patrol vehicle to secure the area. Despite these visible warnings, the electric vehicle drove directly into the police car.

Following the crash, the driver admitted to responding officers that he had been asleep while relying on the car's automated driver-assistance features. The incident has renewed scrutiny regarding the safety and real-world usage of semi-autonomous driving systems on public highways.
