The long-running home renovation television series DIY SOS is scheduled to be rested next year, according to the BBC. Representatives for the public broadcaster rejected speculation from other media outlets suggesting the programme would be permanently cancelled as part of broader expenditure reductions. Rather than a full cancellation, the show will be temporarily substituted with a new spin-off format showcasing highlights and updates from historical episodes.
Fronted by presenter Nick Knowles, DIY SOS follows a crew that renovates the residences of families dealing with significant challenges such as serious medical conditions, disabilities, family loss, or construction catastrophes. The programme debuted in 1999 and is presently broadcasting its 35th series across BBC One and the iPlayer platform.
This scheduling adjustment aligns with the broadcaster's ongoing initiative to achieve five hundred million pounds in savings over a three-year period. The corporation has already terminated several prominent television titles as part of these financial measures.
A spokesperson for the BBC stated that, given the organisation's current financial hurdles, the choice was made to pause DIY SOS in 2027 and instead commission a fresh spin-off programme from production company South Shore. The upcoming series, titled DIY SOS Rebuilt My Life, will revisit previous triumphs from the franchise's history and extend the brand in a fiscally responsible manner.
