New Delhi: Popular television personality Shilpa Shinde, well-known for her work in the entertainment industry, was recently spotted on stage portraying Goddess Sita during the ongoing Shalimar Bagh Ramleela celebrations in the capital. Footage from the event captured the actor enacting a dramatic sequence depicting the exile period, known as vanvas.
Draped in a saffron saree to embody Goddess Sita, Shinde featured in a scene where a distressed Sita requests Lakshmana to go search for Lord Rama due to safety concerns. In the narrative, Lakshmana refuses to leave her behind out of fear for her protection within the forest. Organizers shared clips of the performance on social media, drawing attention from fans and local attendees.
The performance took place against the backdrop of North-West Delhi’s historic Shalimar Bagh, a Mughal-era royal garden dating back to 1653. The area's annual Ramleela serves as a significant cultural attraction during Vijayadashami festivities, organized by local committees to deliver traditional theatrical storytelling, elaborate stage setups, and energetic retellings of the Ramayana over a ten-day period.
Such productions regularly invite popular film and television actors to take on principal characters, blending traditional devotional performances with contemporary star power to engage modern audiences with the epic tale. Ramleela represents the theatrical enactment of Lord Rama's life, celebrated extensively across the country during Navratri to honor the triumph of righteousness over evil.
Shilpa Shinde maintains an extensive career in Hindi television spanning over two decades across daily dramas, reality programs, and digital projects. She achieved widespread national recognition in 2015 for her role as Angoori Bhabhi in the television comedy series Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!. Following her departure from the program, she expanded her career profile by winning the reality competition show Bigg Boss 11 and subsequently participating in multiple other high-profile reality formats.
