A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district sold her one-and-a-half-month-old son for Rs 1.5 lakh and fabricated a kidnapping story to cover up the deal, according to local authorities. The child was subsequently rescued and five suspects were arrested within 24 hours of the case coming to light.

The mother initially approached the police with a claim that her baby had vanished from the Kasganj bus stand while she stepped away to use the washroom. The child's father, who is employed as a labourer in Faridabad, was also notified that his son was missing.

However, law enforcement investigation and subsequent questioning exposed an illicit arrangement to sell the infant, revealing that the kidnapping claim was merely a ploy to conceal the transaction. Investigators stated that a local resident named Arun and his wife acted as middlemen, brokering a deal worth Rs 2 lakh with Mahipal and his spouse. Out of this total amount, Rs 1.5 lakh was handed over to the child's mother.

Working in a joint effort, local police and the Special Operations Group apprehended five individuals at a passenger waiting room located near a railway station. Alongside rescuing the baby safely, authorities recovered Rs 80,000 in cash from the suspects.

All five detained individuals have been presented before a court, and ongoing legal procedures are currently underway as the investigation continues.
