New Delhi: Opposition members of parliament belonging to the INDIA bloc carried out a protest march from Samvidhan Sadan toward Rashtrapati Bhavan, resulting in heightened confrontations with security personnel in the national capital. Delhi Police deployed multiple layers of barricades across Raisina Hill after official permission to visit the president's residence was restricted to a delegation of only 10 leaders.
Tensions escalated near Vijay Chowk when several other parliamentarians attempted to push past security lines to accompany the designated delegation. Visuals from the high-security zone captured lawmakers registering their grievances against being blocked at the checkpoints, demanding either unhindered passage or immediate clearance to join their colleagues.
The march forms part of a broader escalation by the opposition coalition, which has finalized a month-long protest calendar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The alliance has accused election authorities of electoral malpractice and vote theft, prompting plans for sustained demonstrations, sit-ins, and marches across prominent locations in New Delhi including Akashwani Bhavan, Jantar Mantar, Rajghat, and the parliament complex.
While a 10-member delegation comprising prominent leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Mamata Banerjee, Supriya Sule, Manoj Jha, and Omar Abdullah proceeded into the complex to press their demands, other parliamentarians and party members staged a sit-in demonstration at Vijay Chowk.
